The river drought in the Amazon is so severe that many communities are suffering because of the low water levels. Residents of Catalão, in the municipality of Iranduba, in the metropolitan region of Manaus, are struggling with the lack of supplies and drinking water due to the level of the Negro and Solimões rivers. The river dwellers live in floating houses, many of which are aground. Small boats transport food and water in jugs to the community. But the residents also have to walk where the river has dried up to get to where they live.
