MANAUS, BRAZIL - A “rabeta” boat racing tournament was one of the highlights of the 27th Jaraqui Festival, held in Vila do Canumã, a district of the municipality of Borba, in the interior of Amazonas state. A rabeta is a small wooden or aluminum boat equipped with an engine and widely used in northern Brazil, especially on Amazonian rivers.
The races were part of the festival’s traditional program, which brought together residents and visitors last weekend. The competitions were free of charge and open to on-site registration, allowing spontaneous participation from the public.
The festival is part of Vila do Canumã’s cultural calendar and also featured jaraqui preparation contests, in which participants competed to remove the fish’s entrails and cut it in the shortest amount of time.
