The capital of Amazonas has been suffering from air pollution for the fourth consecutive day.
The consequence of this is the constant fires and forest fires in the south of the state.
With the change of winds in the region, dense smoke reached Manaus and covered the city since Saturday (10).
When asked about the subject, the Superintendent of the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama), Joel Araújo, commented on the actions to combat fires in the South of Amazonas.
"We continue to act strongly in the south of the state, mainly in indigenous lands and federal settlements. We have 85 firefighters in the municipalities of Apuí, Manicoré and Humaitá", said Joel Araújo.
"We also have a forest fire brigade in the region of the city of Autazes, in the São Felix Indigenous Land," stated the Ibama Superintendent.
"Unfortunately, many fires still occur due to deforestation from previous years, where fire is used to clear pasture and thus consolidate these areas," commented Joel.
"We need to demand that rural producers get involved in fighting fires. So that they understand that this is not the time to use fire inappropriately and thus we can reduce the problem that affects us," concluded the representative of the Institute.
