BELÉM, BRAZIL — A joint operation involving environmental authorities, the Brazilian Army, the Fire Department and local residents rescued an injured pink river dolphin in the municipality of Marabá, in southeastern Pará state. The animal was found with injuries and in a vulnerable condition on the bank of a river near the city.
The dolphin was taken to a Brazilian Army river base, where it underwent a veterinary examination. Responders identified superficial injuries and signs of weakness, possibly caused by interactions with other animals or by illegal fishing nets.
After receiving initial treatment, the dolphin's condition improved and veterinarians determined it was fit to return to the wild. It was released into its natural habitat and will continue to be monitored by environmental teams.
