The leaf-cutting ants in Brazil are called saúvas, especially the queens of the genus Atta, insects of the formicidae family.
It currently has about two hundred species, all native to the New World and most abundant in the Neotropical Region.
The saúvas are social insects, inhabiting underground nests in which they cultivate a fungus on which they feed.
They are therefore cultivators and eaters of fungus.
