Sensors from the city's Environmental Surveillance System, which measure air quality, indicated that the most critical areas were the west and south of the capital of Amazonas. The images show the extent of the dense smoke that once again blanketed Manaus on Wednesday 11th. The main reason for this is illegal burning near the city. The hot climate of the period helps forest fires to spread. Experts say that the situation has led to Manaus being classified as the third worst city in the world to breathe in.
