The Vila Paraíso Seringal Museum, located in Igarapé São João, in the rural area of ​​Manaus, was inaugurated on August 16, 2002.
The space reproduces a rubber plantation from the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, a time of the rubber cycle and a period of great economic rise in Amazonas.
In the museum, visitors can learn about the rubber production process.
Knowing the latent difference between the way of life of the rubber tapper, who lived in conditions similar to slavery, and that of the rubber tapper, the owner of the rubber plantation who boasted a life of luxury and comfort, even though he was inside the forest.
The facilities were originally used as locations for the film “The Jungle”, by Portuguese director Leonel Vieira.
The filmmaker adapted the book of the same name by Portuguese writer Ferreira Castro.
After the film was produced, the set was donated to the government of Amazonas, which transformed the place into a museum.
