Tuxaua Raimundo Nonato Muratuba, 58, was arrested in fulfilment of a warrant during a Federal Police operation in the municipality of Autazes, in the interior of Amazonas-Brazil. At the request of the police and the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office, the court ordered his temporary arrest for 30 days. According to investigations, Raimundo is suspected of abusing indigenous people from his own community. At least three women and a minor were abused by the indigenous leader. The victims said that the cases took place in the village. According to the police, the suspect requested sexual favours in exchange for providing benefits to the indigenous women. One of the victims was abused from the age of eight. The Muratuba community is made up of twenty-two families. "The arrest of Raimundo Nonato is important to encourage other possible victims to report the cases," said the police.
