Data from the National Institute for Space Research shows that Autazes, in Amazonas, leads the ranking of cities with the most fires in Brazil. Several parts of the forest around the municipality have been destroyed by fire and there are still many outbreaks in the region. Indians from the Mura ethnic group are trying to contain the fire that is spreading through the forest. They are volunteers and are helping the Fire Brigade put out the flames. The concern is to prevent the flames from reaching residents' homes. In addition, the smoke from the fires has blanketed several cities in the metropolitan region of Manaus and has affected air quality.
